Episode 55 of The JamBase Podcast, a partner of Osiris Media, features an “All Access” segment with Greg Williamson of Upper West Music Group and a “Musical Mentors” discussion with bassist Karina Rykman. The interviews follow a short introduction from JamBase’s Andy Kahn.
Greg spoke with Scott Bernstein of JamBase in New York City, the city that will host the fourth annual Love Rocks NYC all-star benefit concert on March 12 at The Beacon Theatre. Williamson co-founded and co-produces the event, from which proceeds go towards God’s Love We Deliver. This year’s lineup includes Dave Matthews, Warren Haynes, Chris Robinson, Rich Robinson, Marcus King and many more. Greg chatted with Scotty about God’s Love We Deliver, the genesis of Love Rocks NYC, his Upper West Music Group firm, how he puts the Love Rocks NYC lineup and outstanding house band together, preparation for the event including how the setlist gets drafted and more. Williamson also discussed the annual Tipping Point event in New Orleans that Upper West Music Group co-produces with Tulane University and hinted at another all-star concert in the works.
Karina’s chat with Scotty took place aboard Jam Cruise 18. Rykman was on hand as an artist-at-large and hosted an evening of Jam Cruise’s famed Jam Room earlier this month. The New York City resident recalled her first days as a musician and those who helped guide her path to her current post as bassist in Marco Benevento‘s band and as General Manager of NYC-based concert promotion company Rocks Off. Karina explained the huge role Ween/Joe Russo’s Almost Dead bassist Dave Dreiwitz played in her career and discussed the big impact of Rocks Off founder Jake Szufnarowski (listen to Jake’s appearance on The JamBase Podcast), impresario Peter Shapiro, The Sound of Urchin‘s Chris “Tomato” Harfenist and others had on her development both as an artist and in navigating the music industry. Rykman co-hosts Relix’s 3 From The 7 podcast.
