In this episode of Comes a Time, psychedelic researcher and drug activist Rick Doblin joins Oteil and Mike for an informative conversation about psychedelics, wolves, and cultural progress. During the introduction, Oteil says “I’m telling you, watch this one” and he sure wasn’t kidding! This is a can’t-miss conversation, and Rick delivers new insights on some of our favorite frequently-visited topics on Comes a Time. You’ll hear the three talk in-depth about psychedelics and unexpectedly positive political developments regarding psychedelic treatment, and a vivid dream that Rick had which solidified his confidence in his life’s mission. They also discuss Rick’s pet wolf that he raised from a pup, a mystical experience that Rick had on MDMA where he felt universal love as he was “cradled in the arms of gravity,” and much more.
Rick Doblin, Ph.D., is a psychedelic researcher and the founder and executive director of the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). He founded the nonprofit research and educational organization in 1986, which works to raise awareness and understanding of psychedelic substances. Rick received his doctorate in Public Policy from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government, and has conducted numerous impactful psychedelic experiments including a thirty-four year follow-up study to Timothy Leary’s Concord Prison Experiment. Rick aims to help develop legal contexts for the beneficial uses of psychedelics and marijuana, and to eventually become a legally licensed psychedelic therapist.
